Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,
for you well know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and
perseverance must complete its work so that you will become fully developed,
complete, not deficient in any way.

Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth
and will win the prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

The Letter of St.James 1:2-4, 12

Lord Have mercy.
Christ graciously hear us.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us

Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

Rejoice in hope,
endure in affliction,
persevere in prayer.

Romans 12:12

We entreat you, Lord, to look with favor on your servant,
who is weak and failing, and refresh the life you have created.
Chastened by suffering, may he (she) know
that he (she) has been saved by your healing;
through Christ our Lord.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us

Lord Jesus Christ, heavenly physician,
you give an eternal remedy
and a pledge of resurrection
to those who eat your bread
grant health to the ailing
and a real hope to sinners.

Lord Jesus Christ, give us the bread of eternal life.

Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

Neither you, nor I care
we have Parkinson’s Disease

With the decline of the physical
comes the waning of the spiritual

We feel tremors
while losing feeling

The loss of passion,
warmth slipping away

It is Parkinson’s Apathy…
a lethargy

not caused by a diagnosis,
but by the disease itself

We pray:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Lord Have mercy.
Christ graciously hear us.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us

Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

It is still the Easter season, and a time to continue celebrating.
Whether we are healed in this life or in the life of the world to come,
we have much to look forward to:

“He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, there will be no more death, and no more mourning or sadness.”
Revelation 21:5

“For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile…”
1 Corinthians 15:17

Lord Have mercy.
Christ graciously hear us.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us

Depression. Anxiety.
Whether caused by Parkinson’s Disease itself,
or as a reaction to the disease
Limits life by the burden it brings.

There is Relief, Healing…

“Glorify the LORD with me,
let us together extol his name.
I sought the LORD, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.”

-Psalm 34: 4,5,19

Christ graciously hear us.

Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

Fatigue is one of the great challenges that is Parkinson’s Disease.

Brought on by the onset of the disease itself, and the medicine which treats it,
weariness of body and spirit is experienced by all who live with this trial.

Excerpts in the Christmas carol ‘O Holy Night’ shine forth the healing gift of Jesus:

“A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

In all our trials born to be our friend.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,”

Lord Have mercy.
Christ graciously hear us.

Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

Matthew 15:30
Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee,
went up on the mountain, and sat down there.
Great crowds came to him,
having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute,
and many others.
They placed them at his feet, and he cured them.

Lord Have mercy.
Christ graciously hear us.

Parkinson’s: Pensées & Prayers

“I must die to myself continually and accept trials without complaining.
I work, I suffer and I love with no other witness than His heart.
Anyone who is not prepared to suffer all for the Beloved and
to do his will in all things is not worthy of the sweet name of Friend,
for here below, Love without suffering does not exist.”

-St Bernadette of Lourdes (1844-1879)

“And I saw a river over which every soul must pass to reach the Kingdom of Heaven,
and the name of that river was suffering … and then I saw a boat which carried souls across the river,
and the name of that boat was Love.”

-St. John of the Cross (1542-1591)
